It's not a secret for anyone that life has a funny way of working, everyday we have to be ready for new surprises, new challenges, and new situations that can drastically change our life. Sadly, although we wished that all these new situations brought joy to our lives, we are in constant danger of receiving the exact opposite to joyful news, and therefore it's important to find effective coping mechanisms. There are thousands of ways in which one can face a crisis, these mechanisms vary regarding personalities, the nature of the situations, and many more variables; however, I have grown fond of one specific way of coping with life: the mechanism of writing.

Throughout my life writing has become an indispensable habit for me, everyday I try to devote at least ten minutes to write about ideas or feelings running through my mind. All these years of mastering this sacred habit have shown me that writing is a perfect method to let negative situations and intrusive thoughts. Unlike other coping mechanisms, writing is a habit easy to acquire, you just need a pen, paper, and a few minutes of your day. This simple act, besides being easy to incorporate in your everyday life, will become a cathartic process that can enlighten the weight of problems. Society has a misconception about writing because most people think that writing is a public act, but the best essays, the best books, and basically the best pieces of writing, are personal. Therefore, when writing you have to open up, you have to let go of each and every standard, you have to understand that the only way a cathartic process can go on inside of you, is being totally honest with yourself.

Developing this habit of talking with yourself through writing in a personal journal will help you grow in many ways. When we write we recollect lessons that one might need to remember every once in a while, and having these lessons immortalized with pen and paper will let you reminisce in the future who you were and how much you have grown. Reading your journal is as good as writing it, a journal is one's mind and soul, it contains our darkest secrets, and our deepest fears, so if you can learn more about yourself than you already know, the perfect place to begin is reading what you once felt. You might get surprised by how amazing it feels moving on by letting go what once hurt you throughout words, it's like a moment of epiphany when the troubles and the stress become just a bunch of sentences in a journal. It gets much better when time has passed and you reread who you once were, because you start realizing that you are much stronger than you think, bringing the pleasing sensation of proudness.

In conclusion, writing has two ways of helping you move through the surprising labyrinth of life. When life gets hard and seemingly unbearable, try to write how you feel, what you think, or maybe if you rather do something creative write a story, just let go of the heaviness of worries by talking to yourself. Once you begin to incorporate this habit in your everyday life, you will find yourself utterly surprised by how writing can change the way you see your surroundings and most important yourself. Unlike what society thinks, words have power, so use them wisely and in a matter of days you will notice that there's no better way of coping with life than writing.
