World Art Day April 15th

Since 2012 proclaimed by the International Association of Art (IAA/AIAP), a partner of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) every year on April 15th is celebrated World Art Day, this date was chosen in honor of Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday. Da Vinci, as you may know, is one of the most important artists in history, being a painter, sculptor, scientist, among others.
Why is it celebrated?
This international celebration was created to promote awareness of creativity worldwide, being a way of recognition for fine arts that includes a variety of artistic expressions such as drawing, sculpture, literature, music, architecture, dance, photography, etc.
Art is something that may be underestimated most of the times; however, it is a fundamental activity for children as well as for adults; this is because it is not only a way of expression, but also it produces lots of benefits like:

It strengthens focus
It helps improve the hand-eye coordination
Improves the life quality of an ill individual
Reduces anxiety and depression symptoms
Beneficial for older adults particularly for those that suffer from Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease
Improves cognitive functions

In social interaction
Improves problem-solving
Helps express people in new ways
Stimulates imagination and creativity
Makes people more observant

How to celebrate this day?
Now that we are staying at home, we can let our imagination and creativity come alive; we can express ourselves beyond the limits. To be part of this amazing celebration you can sketch a drawing, write an essay, take photographs, create a movie, make up a song, let your body move into a dance, or mold a sculpture. Also, you can learn about famous artists, research to improve your skills, or watch iconic art movies.
