Letter to Santa

Manuela Herrán 10ºA

What do you wish for? What are you seeking?

Let's make this letter to Santa a reflection of what has happened during this year. I know we have not had the best year so far, so let's see this year approaching one as a door of new beginnings. Let's make this letter together, get a piece of paper and a pen, and let's start.

First, let's write what we want to leave behind. It could be anything you like, for example, a fight you had with someone, or a mistake you have made - but remember, you do not want to forget any of this, you want to learn from it. It could also be a bad habit or things that happened in this year that you are ready to get through, and leave behind. Come on, write it down, it will be fun! See it as a way of meditating.

Ok, now that you have written it down, let’s check, make sure you are diving deep into what this year was, and profoundly approaching it so that you can see a new beginning, light across the tunnel.

What if for a moment we forget. We forget all the bad things that have happened, that we all lived through. We are going to imagine “imagine all the people living for today,” like John Lennon once said, and let's picture it, together, and live a moment of imagination as if it were reality. Let’s live it like it is today. I, for example, in my little world of imagination, would be in peace with myself; there would be no pandemic, no wars, no hunger, no injustice. Now that's what I see the world in general needs, and what I wish for it, but if I were to be specific, and what I need, I would...

Now, if that world were to be real, it would not be perfect, because we as humans are always seeking new things, and more of it, and I would probably have other types of problems. Still, I would be living in a reality, different from this one. What about you? You are now to write your imaginary world, but be specific and portray it as if it were this coming year. Take your time, make this letter to Santa the most special one you have ever written.

Now let's get down to earth and write tangible goals. I am not saying those that you wrote in the last part are not possible, but what I am saying is to write something that you can see yourself doing on your own this coming year. It would be nice if you wrote something in each of these categories that I am about to propose: one goal academically, one goal socially, one goal spiritually, and one goal just for yourself. After you have written them down, I am inviting you to write what feels right for you in this letter to Santa. Finally, write all your accomplishments, all the beautiful moments you lived, all lessons you learned, all the pillars you cultivated, sit down, and make this part the most memorable one.

Along with this letter, we have accomplished great things, and we have seen a kind of rewind of what this year was like. With your letter, I want you to keep it, do not burn it, do not do anything crazy, save it as a memoir to your past, to this year that you just lived. Then again you can do whatever you like with your letter (if you wrote it), I have no power over you, I am just here writing this to anyone who finds it interesting. I hope you found this opportunity and enjoyed it to be an all-embracing way to contemplate yourself, and your bygone.

Greetings,

Santa’s Elf
