When you think about astrology, you probably think of the zodiac signs. You know, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Aquarius, and Pisces, but astrology is so much more than just that sign you see in horoscope posts on Instagram. Astrology is an ancient art that translates the movement and positions of celestial bodies. It explains how and why they can have a profound impact on different aspects of your life. It uses planetary bodies, zodiac signs, and houses to communicate a unique cosmic signature known as your birth chart. Most people do not know their birth chart, they only know their sun sign, which is the most common one, but in your birth chart, you can see how every planet has a position and its energy is reflected in a part of you and what you can become in your life. Nevertheless, three main planetary points outline your everyday personality, known as your “Big Three”, which are your sun, moon, and rising signs and are the ones I will be talking about here.
In the first place, we have the sun or star sign, which you should already know since it is the one everyone says when they are asked “what is your sign?”. The Sun sign is where the Sun was located in the zodiac at the time of your birth. It represents your basic essence and vitality, or in other words, your identity. It is how you experience the ego in your life and expresses your individuality. It is how you answer the question “I am”. It also represents the type of energy that you need to feel reawaken and the qualities you are learning to incorporate in your life. It is the essence that you shine out into the world, meaning that it represents the force that drives you to seek the highest expression of your true self.
Secondly, we have the moon sign. Your moon sign is one of the most significant aspects of your astrological profile because it represents your emotional inner world. It is the soul behind your identity or the subconscious side of yourself that you do not show often. It reflects how you experience feelings and safety in your personal life, and it represents the energy you need to get to feel fulfilled. Your moon sign is where the moon was positioned in the zodiac at the exact time of your birth, so to calculate it, you need to know at what time of the day you were born.
Finally, there is the rising or ascendant sign, which is your social personality. It represents your outward style and how you show yourself to others, so it is like the “cover of your book”. It can be seen as the manifestation of both, your inner and outer world, and your approach to life. It reveals the qualities you most visibly show to others upon the first impression. Learning about your Rising sign can make you aware of how you come across to others. It relates to the zodiac sign that was on the Eastern horizon at the time of your birth. So to calculate it, you need your exact time of birth as well.
Astrology is about understanding how the universe works and moves to help you understand yourself and guide you through your life. Although your birth chart has much more information you can analyze, your big three are a major part of it. Now that you know what they mean, you can get to know yourself a little bit better and live your life to the fullest.
