Mental health, how to get your life together

By: Manuela Herrán 10°B

We have all been struggling lately with keeping a rhythm of work, and have been lacking motivation to do work or motivation to keep up with life. It is exhausting the situation we are all living in right now, but it is important to keep pushing, and when it's necessary take a much-needed break. Through the following I'm going to give you some tips and tricks to keep yourself motivated, happy and productive throughout these difficult mind-blowing times.

  • Make your workspace a place you enjoy. When we need to restart our life and power new beginnings, it's always helpful to renovate the space you live in. Change the organizer of your room, change your wallpapers, change your space. Try to decorate it. Make it enjoyable and include things that may motivate you while doing it. For example, music, movies, sports, aesthetics, among others. Get inspiration from apps like Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. Make sure to organize this space, so that it is practical and clean. Later on, you will see how this technique will save you time and exhaustion. Start by organizing your closet, your desk, and your room in general.

  • Make a plan of change. Change your habits. Habits are hard things to break or change, but when you focus them on the person you want to become, they can be really useful. Write down your goals and aspirations, visualize them. Change your daily habits, wake up earlier, go for a walk, make your bed, make yourself a breakfast you like, eat healthy and powering snacks. When you do this make a plan. Write down what you need to change in your life. Write down your strengths and weaknesses, and also include ways you can reward yourself after doing so. For example, watching a movie you like, buying yourself something to eat, it can be anything you desire. Encourage yourself to do things in a certain amount of time and take constant breaks. For example, work for 25 minutes and rest for five and so on.

  • Track your progress. This is a really simple but effective way to follow what you have done, and to keep on pushing harder. You have to remember not all the days are going to be productive. Some are going to feel exhausting, but it's still progress and that's how you build your routine. Mark every assignment that you complete. You can do this in a planner that’s designed in a way that works for you. Make a note every time you do something well or complete a goal. This shows you are going forward. All of this will make sure you are disciplined and motivated.

  • Stop procrastinating. You have to be conscious of what you are doing with your time. Keep the promises you made to yourself. If you said you were going to wake up at a certain hour but did not actually end up getting up at that hour; you can’t continue being like that. You have to respect your time and yourself, and this is how you stop procrastinating.

  • Baby steps. It's important for you to remember that you are not going to change your life from one day to another; it's a whole process that needs persistence and grit. Each baby step that you take counts and brings you closer to the ultimate goal.

Remember to work hard and to keep a positive attitude along the way. Work on yourself and the goals that are important to you. You are really important, so do this for yourself not for anyone else.
