Note to Myself

I have arrived at the moment of my life where I need to choose what to do for the rest of it, the moment where I need to worry about university, and concentrate on all the exams I have to do before I graduate. When did time fly away so fast? I remember some years ago, when I was very anxious about growing up: I wanted to graduate the fastest possible and start living my life. I guess I didn't realize how terrifying it actually is. I know I am still young and I still have a whole year to organize myself and make a decision, but I don't think I want to do it. The fact that everyone around me is talking about these topics is not helping and it just makes me feel more stressed out. Watching my friends talk about what university they are going to and telling me what they want to study, just makes me feel like I need to make the decision now, or it will be too late. So, I decided to write a note to myself and to everyone that may need this.

Let's start with the most important idea. It's okay to take your time. It is okay to think about what you want to study; you don't need to make the choice now. You will decide what to do at the proper time, and no matter when it happens you will know that it is the right decision. Trust the process and most importantly enjoy it. The fact that the people around you already know what to do with their life doesn't mean you have to know too, and it definitely does not mean that you are late to choosing.  Instead of worrying yourself, see it as an opportunity: you still have everything to pick from. You have so many opportunities and time to think about it.

Second, it is important that you understand that whatever is that you are going to study, you don't have to choose thinking on doing it for the rest of your life. No one knows what they want to do for the rest of their life, and no one will ever know. The decision you make needs to come from what you want to do at that moment. What do you want to do now, you don't know what you will like to do in 30 years, so you can't base your decision on it. I am pretty sure your life is going to bring you so many paths and opportunities that will lead you to your happiness, so make your decision based on what you want to do now, time will make sure that things go on as they are supposed to happen.

I don't really have more things to tell you, but I think those two were enough. Choosing a career should not be something that stresses you out and, on the contrary, it should be something that excites you and that inspires you. So I will repeat, take your time and enjoy the process.
