All the tea on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

It’s not a secret that the British royal family has been in the spotlight for many scandals during these last few years. On March 7th, “Oprah with Meghan and Harry” premiered on CBS where the duke and duchess of Sussex revealed surprising details about their lives and their relationships with Harry’s family. Today, I’m going to show you some of the most shocking details that the royal couple revealed during this interview.

First, it is necessary to make some clarifications in order to fully understand what they talked about. When it comes to the British royal family, we have to divide it into two main groups: the Family Itself, which is composed by the blood relatives of the house of Windsor-Mountbatten (the queen Elizabeth, her husband Prince Phillip, her son Charles, her daughter Anne, etc…), and The Institution or The Royal Household, that refers to the employees and staff that are basically the ones who take the social and political decisions of the family. 

Meghan’s suicidal thoughts

As it can be expected, joining the royal family isn’t an easy job. Markle describes feeling very lonely as she lost a great part of her individual freedom, until a point where she “didn’t want to be alive anymore”. She states that when she tried to talk with The Institution in order to get help, they didn’t approve her mental health issues as it wasn’t considered part of the image that the British crown needed to proyect. Because nothing was ever done, the duchess searched for support from her husband Harry and one of Princess Diana’s (Harry’s mother) best friends, which knew the struggle that’s “being on the inside”. 

Racism within the royal family

When the news of Harry and Meghan’s firstborn child became public, the conversations regarding “how dark his [the baby’s] skin might be” started. Taking into account that Markle’s mother is an african american, the couple’s son Archie is the first biracial baby in the recent history of the British crown. Although the couple never revealed the name of with whom these conversations were held, "at the time it was awkward, I was a bit shocked," said Harry.

Harry has been economically cut off by his family

At the beginnings of 2020, the royal family stopped supporting Harry financially. This worried Harry and Meghan very much because they needed to afford the security necessary for their son Archie, as he didn’t receive a royal title that assured him protection from the crown. Fortunately, Tyler Perry (american billionaire and media mogul) provided the family with a home and security in their new town Los Angeles, California. Also, Harry commented how the inheritance her mother Diana left him along with some deals with Spotify and Netflix has been their livelihood during these past few months.

The couple is expecting a new member in their family

In an exclusive announcement, the duke and duchess of Sussex revealed to Oprah that they’re expecting a girl. Their second baby will be born during the summer of this year. “Amazing, what more can you ask for?,” said Harry. 

Pretty astonishing revelations, aren’t they? Even though many think the affirmations made are false, it’s definitely interesting to see how life works for the British royal family. It only remains to wait and see what happens in the future for this royal couple, but for now what do you think?
