The value of women, us women, an ongoing fight

By: Manuela Herrán 10°A

Us women have come so far. We have started a revolution and have gained a lot of progress. The value each woman, girl, and lady has is unmeasurable. Each one of us has a light and a power that's unique and special. Women are so capable of doing anything they put their mind to. Anything and everything. Powerful, independent, and bold souls that show how strong, smart, and graceful they can really be.

Over history, in almost every society women have been property of men. We have been oppressed and marginalized. Though progress has been made, there is still a lot that we can do to get where we want to be. And you may wonder where is that ideal place where we want to be? To me it consists of a lot of things; therefore, I'm going to try my best to summarize them for you. This is my ideal: A place where women can go out, at any hour they please, wearing whatever they want, and with whomever they desire or if so alone. It's a place where misogyny and sexism doesn't exist. A place where women have the same opportunities as men, and the same rights. It also includes that all women show support to each other, and they don’t bring each other down. Additionally, it consists of a place where women are free to speak their mind without feeling judged or less than. A place where women are not objectified and are no prey.

As you can see, these and many other characteristics are what, in my opinion, is a world free of patriarchy and oppression. The fight is ongoing and seeing all the potential we women have. It’s time to act and raise our voices. I think that in order to reach our common goal we have to start working together and encouraging each other to be confident in our own skin; no matter our race, beliefs, or our differences. It's time to become one, because empowered women are stronger than just a few.

It is hard to see that we have to prove ourselves to men all the time. Many men have such a fragile masculinity that they cannot accept when other women surpass them in many aspects of their life. Standards and ideas a lot of men have regarding women are toxic and harmful. It's funny how in a traditional environment women are taught not to wear a specific item of clothing, or taught not to go out late at night, nor alone. All of this because there is the fear of being raped, violated, or harmed. But why aren't the people teaching these things to women, teaching men to respect women? We can see many times that, when a woman is raped, some people pin the responsibility on her. They say that she shouldn't have worn that or that she shouldn't have gone alone and many things like that. The clothing that a woman wears doesn’t mean an “easy” access.

I'm inviting you to share positivity, body positivity, mind positivity, and pretty much any positivity. We as women should empower each other. Society has to stop generalizing the feminists, and the role women have.  It is important to realize that all women should be loved, and they are so valuable in every aspect of their life. We are women, and we should all be proud to be so. We have to keep on fighting for equality and a quality of treatment, because that's just what we deserve. Let's love, let's be a change, and a motivation for future girls and women who need support.
