Music can carry you through tough times, it can make you feel like you’re free even at home during quarantine. Music has the power to show us new points of view and describe ideas publicly, it has the power of getting to us and creating change. During quarantine great artists keep working to give people their music to show you that you’re not alone and that in any situation, you’ll always count on music to comfort you. Here are six albums released during quarantine for you to enjoy and listen to.

In April 10, The Strokes released their latest alternative album called The New Abnormal. This album is their first after seven years and it is a reference to how they first got recognized worldwide “as young saviors of rock”, as it was quoted by Apple Music in their album description. It’s a record that has reflections of how their greatness came accompanied by some bad decisions and how they keep on growing personally and artistically.

In May, Charlie XCX delivered her quarantine-created album How I’m Feeling Now that talks about loneliness, love and solo partying. This album includes futuristic electro pop sounds in every song. With her music the artist encourages honest and free expression of feelings and portrays her personal experience during quarantine.

The following month HAIM, a band created by three sisters, released their third album on June 26 and it was titled Women In Music Pt.III. Pitchfork, the music reviewing platform quoted: “The third album from the trio is far and away their best. Intimate, multidimensional, and wide-ranging, the songwriting shines with personality and a great curiosity for melody and style”. This album contains tunes that are perfect to enjoy, dance and sing to with some great music videos as well. Later in July, Dominic Fike showed his second album called What Could Possibly Go Wrong, talking about cultural and social problems, his personal challenges and his growth inside and outside of the music industry. Along with rock guitar sounds, rap, orchestra and indie inspired sounds.

Finally, on August 7, Glass Animals released their album Dreamland, including an autobiography and hip hop inspired music, by which the band manages to have sad, emotive, hyped, happy and profound songs. Many of the songs in this album are about questioning trauma, art and morality. Subsequently this month, Declan Mckenna explained many of the thoughts that run through his head, his imagination and beliefs in his record Zeros. Declan uses protest rock inspired sounds, as well as future-like melodies to portray Bowie and Beatles inspired songs about climate change, feminism and capitalism, among others social problems of today from a young point of view.
